December 2018 update

Kingdom Partners Global

Work with Kingdom Partners continues on a solid pace; there is always something going on. In October I was involved in two weekend prayer retreats. The first one was our annual Allies prayer retreat for youth pastors, which I lead. This year we expanded the invitation to include not only youth pastors but also key youth sponsors from various churches to increase our understanding of what is going on with the students. Our time away was awesome as we prayed, worshiped, and heard from God (more on “hearing from God on the next page) as to plans for refocusing our efforts to work together to reach students. The Lord spoke very clearly and we returned with a unified plan to work out the next few years.

The second prayer retreat was for a local church’s worship team; I am invited each year to hear from the Lord and to pray over people. I love being a part of these retreats and seeing God move in Power! (Heard several things from the Lord and participated with the Lord as two people were healed!) It is crazy how the healing gift works sometimes. We were in the middle of worship and suddenly I had a pretty good headache that came out of nowhere. So I asked, “Does anyone have a headache? I believe the Lord wants to heal you from it.” A young lady stepped forward, and I prayer for her and her headache was gone, praise Jesus! As soon as that happened, my ear started buzzing and humming and driving me crazy, so I said, “I believe that God wants to heal someone's ear. If that's you, come up here and let me pray for you.” No one came forward so we moved into another worship song which I could barely sing because my ear was so bothersome. After that song, I said, “I really believe God wants to heal someone’s ear so if that’s you, please come forward, if not for your sake then for mine.” After quite some time a guy came forward and said that he had been having problems for over a year and had been to the doctor several times with no success. So I prayed for him and God healed his ears. Whoo Hoo! Praise Jesus for His Goodness and Power!

It is very exciting to be used by God in healing and other supernatural gifts, and I have to constantly remind myself that it’s God working and not anything that comes from me. Ten years ago I would have been a bit skeptical that God still moves in these ways, and probably not humble enough to handle it. The scripture tells us He is the same Yesterday, Today, and Forevermore. He holds the Power to speak life into existence with just a Word, He can surely speak to us today and use us to bring healing to the brokenness in our world!

Hearing From GOD:

I’m still learning these amazing things, so I am by no means an expert, but I am so excited about it all that I want to try to explain them to you, at the risk of sounding foolish or crazy! God may at times speak audibly to people, though He has not chosen to speak to me or Tammy that way (yet?). We usually hear Him in our heads in our own voices, but it is CLEARLY God as often it is not something we would have known or thought of, or it is completely out of character for us. For instance, God has often given us specific words for people whom we do not even know or do not know very well, and once we tell them that we feel God has a message for them, and share it with them, they ask, “How did you know that?!” I’m not gonna lie, it is scary to step out in faith and tell someone you do not know that you feel God telling you that He wants them to let go of the bitterness that has rooted in their heart and forgive.

That has happened in different ways with different people and different messages for the past year or so and others have spoken over us in the same manner and left us with no doubt that it is God! Tammy lost two of her sisters and her Mom between 2010 and 2012. At a Naturally Supernatural conference, someone who did not know anything about Tammy said, “There is someone here who has lost 3 very special people in her life several years ago and thought she was through grieving, but God wants you to know that He is here and we want to pray for you.” Tammy immediately began looking around the room to see who else had experienced such great loss because she wanted to go hold and pray with that woman. However, she looked at me and I told her it was her...she said, “No, it’s not!” Then she began weeping uncontrollably and many people prayed over her and she felt release from the heavy burden of grief. (Grief is an ongoing process that she is not finished with, but is no longer ignoring it or stuffing it).

God also speaks through The Bible which is Alive and Active and Sharper than a double-edged sword...He often speaks to us through other people. There is no end to the ways that God can and will speak to us if we are ready to listen and step out in faith and obedience. It is exhilarating, scary, humbling, amazing, freaky, and wonderful all at once! Every time it happens, our minds are blown! When God speaks to us, we always weigh it in our minds and against scripture to be sure it does not go against anything God has already spoken in His Word. Obviously, if you hear a voice in your head telling you to rob a bank, it is NOT from God!

Can we be wrong in what we think we are hearing? Absolutely, but we won’t know unless we step out in faith! As our good friend, Mike Pilavachi, says, “If you get it wrong, nobody dies.” The more we use these “muscles,” the stronger they get. Does God choose to heal everyone we pray for? No! Yet we won’t know if we don’t pray! Does any of this sound NORMAL? NO! But neither does Daniel surviving the den of lions or Jonah spending 3 days in the belly of a big fish, or Jesus taking our place on the cross... If you’d like to contact me to talk more fully about all of this, please do! I love talking about what God is doing!

One Voice:

One again The Tabernacle (a predominantly white church) and Acts Church (a predominantly African American church) came together for a joint Sunday service on November 25th, the third time in a year. It is increasing more exciting as each one of these unity events helps to draw churches, people, and a city together. I am proud to say that I continue to play a small part in this process of unity and will continue to push the unity agenda as I believe it is His heart.

Galatians 3:28 (NLT), says:

28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Family Update:

Kaylee Patricia Johnson born December 3rd, 2018

On the family front, life continues to change. In fact, sometimes it seems to be rolling out of control! On Dec. 3rd, we were blessed with our very first granddaughter. Our daughter Kellie gave birth to Kaylee Patricia Johnson. A beautiful baby, 7 lbs. 14 oz. 20 inches long. Camden (born to Jess/Zach...Jess is our unofficially adopted daughter) is a year old and beginning to make words, so now we need grandparent names. I was totally unaware of all of the things we have to do to be Grandparents! Tammy is going with “Mimi,” which she has wanted to do for a very long time. I figured I’d go with “Papa,” since that is what our kids called my Dad until they could say Grandpa. But after much consideration, I’m going with a name that Kellie suggested. Are you ready to have your mind blown? Put your nerd hat on. Wait for it.......Grandalf! I Love it. Yes, I know that it will take awhile for Camden and Kaylee to get it down, but my Grandpa coolness factor is going through the roof. Booyah! David, Kellie and Kaylee are all doing well and setting in at home. The only problem is keep Mimi at home and away from the baby.

September 2018 update

Kingdom Partners Global

Every time we think we are finished with the paperwork and have Kingdom Partners Global up and running, we get a letter from IRS or State of Wisconsin about unemployment insurance or workman's comp insurance or we are missing some forms… One would think that they could develop a more streamlined approach! Also, that the Federal Government would communicate with the State Government. So we just keep filling stuff out and sending it in. A special thank you goes out to David Johnson for helping me navigate all these forms.

Moving into the Fall is kind of like starting the new year according to church calendars  and school calendars. This summer is the first summer that I have not been involved in a missions trip. It was a very wise decision based on all that was going on at home with Koral getting married and moving to England shortly afterwards and John and Marie visiting the U.S. for the month of August. I also took a trip with my brothers to spread my Dad’s ashes. Needless to say, it’s Go Time……

Allies

A few years ago I thought I was moving on from Youth Ministry. Yet instead of that happening, I am now hands-on with two youth groups: I’m a sponsor at my brother Matt’s church, The Tabernacle, where I work along side our son-in-law David and our daughter Kellie, which I have done for years, and now I also am working with Living Light Christian Church, the church where we are members, along side our son David and his wife Amy. Living Light has a new youth leader so I am there to help with the transition and do whatever is needed. Both Racine and Kenosha youth Allies groups are in full swing. (Racine takes a break for the summer and Kenosha meets as best they can around the busy summer schedules of the Youth Pastors.)

Senior Pastor Allies continues to move forward. God has really been speaking about unity and the Churches coming together. Psalms 133 has been highlighted to us several times by various people.

Psalm 133 says…

1   How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

2   It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.

3   It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion.  For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

We are committed to praying for our city and each other weekly and are eager to see what the Lord is going to do through this group.

On August 5th, Acts Church (a predominantly African American church) and The Tabernacle (a predominantly white church) came together for the second “One Voice,” a joint Sunday service.  This one was held outside down at the lakefront, with a BBQ and games immediately following the service. The service concluded with baptisms. Some of the baptisms were prescheduled and others were spontaneous, it was amazing. This was a time for the church to come together to give praise and glory to God with “One Voice”. It was a major step forward on the unity front for Kenosha, at a time when our nation is racked with racial tension and strife. And while I had no specific part in the actual service, I was able to attend, and my work with the Allies has helped to set the foundation for the two churches coming together. I feel that this was another step forward in the unity process of the church of Kenosha.

Family Update:

Question - What does it take to save a $1000.00 on your car insurance?

Answer - Marry off your daughter and have her move out of the country.

These two photos spoke to me of our family’s love for each other. Some things don’t change with time. (Kellie/Koral then and now)

There has got to be a better and easier way to save money! Koral is now Married! It’s as I have said before, “It’s the day that Daddies dread and little girls dream of.” August 18th was an amazing day and things went amazingly smoothly. It’s crazy to think that both Koral and Divan were born in Africa! He in South Africa and she in Kenya. The service was live streamed  since so many family members across the country and the world could not attend.  It was the day Koral dreamed of, and she was swept off her feet by her knight in shining armor. Everyone was Oh, so happy, (well, almost everyone).  It was extremely hard to say goodbye when she walked out of the church not knowing when we would she her again, because she was moving across the pond to England.  Koral and Divan are residing in Taunton, England, about 20 minutes away from John and Marie in Wellington, England.  Although it is hard, we take comfort in the fact that this is how we raised our children: to grow up, leave our home and follow God wherever He may lead, no matter what.  So in the midst of our sadness, we know that it’s the right thing that needed to happen.

KPGsept2018wide.001.jpeg

The end of August was a chance for me to get away with my 3 brothers and good friend John for a week.  We traveled to Northern MN to the BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area) where there are no motors allowed. We had to paddle all of our food and equipment in and portage from lake to lake.  We also cooked over the open fire. It was fantastic!  I felt like a real Lewis and Clark.  We spent a lot of time canoeing and fishing and enjoying being away from civilization and people.  It was also an emotional time as we took the opportunity to spread our Dad’s ashes at his favorite fishing lake.  It was a great week, but also a physically grueling one, though well worth it.  It had been over 40 years since I had been to those specific lakes.  I love spending time in God’s beautiful creation.

Please continue to pray for us as we try to move Kingdom Partners forward.  Thanks for taking time to read and pray!
