Feeding Africa

As we move into this new year, we just want to take a moment and say Asante (Swahili word for thank you) for those of you who have partnered with us in the Feeding Africa Program.  We appreciate your sacrificial giving and want you to know we are grateful.  We know it has been a hard and challenging year due to the Covid 19 pandemic and many other things going on in our lives.  We started the feeding program back in April 2020 feeding 1 family of 9 people.  It has grown because the Lord has touched your hearts to give, and we are grateful.

We have currently expanded to feeding 1,000 people each day with your generous assistance.  On Jan. 24th, “we” served our 500,960th meal, over 1/2 million meals, praise God!  This is an amazing act of care and compassion by 3 churches and 66 people who in 9 months have donated the $47,925 that has funded our first 1/2 million meals!  We truly could not have done it without you! We also could not have done it without our helpers in Kenya who shop for, package, and give out the food bundles...very selfless and compassionate individuals/teams!  So won’t you join us in celebrating Happy Half-million Day!  WooHoo! Check out the video below to hear Beth, one of our volunteer coordinators, share what it’s been like giving out these food bundles.

Kenya has continued to struggle with lockdown and curfews.  Some of the Kenyans have been able to return to schools, but a majority have not because they have not been able to pay their school fees as they have not been able to work.   The need has not gone away, in fact it has increased.  One of the things compounding the problem is that the rains which they need for their crops have been late this year.  Please join us in praying for rains for their harvest so they can grow food on their shambas (farms).

One of our helpers in the Kijabe location recently contacted us to ask if there was any way that we could expand to include another 20 families.  We had to say no as it would take approximately another $1000.00 a month (based on it being about $50 to feed a family for a month.)  We could not justify adding more at this point when there are weeks we cannot fully provide for what we are doing now.  We are continuing to try to push our 7/7 Challenge where our goal is to have sponsors for each of the 1000 people in the program.  The cost to sponsor one person is only $7.00 a month.  And the cost to sponsor a family is $50.00 a month.  If you know any people, churches, or businesses that might be interested, let us know and we will get some 7/7 cards out to you so that you can pass along the information or you can download resources from website.

Travel

This will be the first year since 2014 that I will not be taking pastors to the “Naturally Supernatural Conference” in Watford, England in February.  I’m extremely sad because it has always been such a huge part of building the unity of the Churches in Kenosha as we travel together, worship together and learn together.  I’m also going to miss the chance to see our kids in England, John & Marie and Divan & Koral, by not taking my annual pilgrimage to Taunton/Wellington after the conference.

Family

Our immediate family is doing well in this season. Tammy continues to homeschool the kids working on some very specific things that are having a great positive effect on their behavior. We also watch Kellie/David’s two children several times a week. We are enjoying being back live in Sunday services and being involved in many prayer services with several churches across the city.

Awaken The Church

I continue to feel the Call of God on the Church to Awake, to come alive.  God spoke to me the other day and said the shaking we have all felt this past year will continue.  He said that there are two reasons for this shaking.

#1.  To remove that which is Dead. (Those who are in the church but are not a part of Christ.)

#2.  To awaken that which is Asleep.  (Those who have been concerned with the things of the world and not focused on the advancement of the gospel.).

The end goal of the shakings is to turn the church into the pure and spotless Bride of Christ.  This includes a renewed call to prayer, the Church’s primary weapon for advancing the kingdom which many of us have ignored over the past years.

May God’s shaking drive us to our knees as we seek to respond to Him. God’s love is the only thing that can repair the chasm that the devil has created in this country using fear and hate.  We are in a Spiritual War and only Spiritual weapons will be effective.

Paul closes out his letter to the Ephesians with these thoughts which need to guide and shape our thoughts and actions:

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

- Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT

I am including again the word that God gave me in 2018 as I feel God leading me to do so.  Please watch and listen again even if you have done so before and see if God speaks anything to you through it.

Feeding Africa: Providing Food and Hope

For most of us, Monday is not a day we look forward to. In America, Monday has a reputation of being gloomy, and exhausting, an unwavering reminder that the weekend is gone. But for those involved in our Feeding Africa program, Monday means something much different. Monday rolls around bringing a sense of relief and thankfulness. Mothers and children come with hearts full of hope to receive parcels of food that will provide nourishment for their families for the coming week.

We are so incredibly thankful that for the last 14 weeks we have been able to provide food for these families during a time of crisis. We began with the little we had, feeding just a handful of families and with the generosity of others have moved to providing meals for about 1000 people each week! We have been able to provide our beautiful brothers and sisters with food bundles to feed their families 2 meals each day for a total of approximately 134,960 meals in just three months. We are seriously blown away!

Margaret and Nifah who run the distribution sites have been constantly telling us of the impact Feeding Africa has had on those receiving food bundles. Stories of the relief of heartbroken mothers who previously feared they would have to watch their children starve, mothers who with tears in their eyes, express that this food has saved the lives of their children, stories of people finding hope where there seemed to be none, and stories of children transformed from sadness to joy. Beth, who helps her mother Margaret with the food distribution, has said of those who have donated, “You guys are amazing, I wish you could see the change. These kids used to be so dull, now it’s all fun and games. No offense, but they used to smell like goats but now they are clean and tidy. God is using you to change their lives.” Soon we hope to be able to share some of these stories with you, we want you to know that your kindness and generosity is having such an impact on those receiving food. Not only have their bellies been filled with food but their hearts restored with hope.

We would love to be able to continue providing food for these families, but as the program has grown so have expenses. It currently costs around $1500 each week to feed the 1000 people who are part of the program. We want to be honest and up front with you our donors that funds for feeding Africa are running low. We had told those in charge of the distribution that we would continue with Feeding Africa as long as there was a need and as long as God continued to provide the funds. When we told Nifah that funds were low and we may have to shut down the food distribution soon she sent us this heartfelt reply, “Today was very emotional for me and my friends, to the mums, we were here shining their hope. It is very hard to let them know that this feeding program might come to an end soon. I told my friends and we all prayed together that God will continue to touch more hearts there to keep giving. I was personally traumatized since I heard from you [about ending the program], every time I think about it I just whisper a prayer that things will not get worse...as you pray for this situation, pray for me.”

We would ask that you would keep Nifah, Margaret, Beth and the many others involved in Feeding Africa in your prayers. We would also ask that you would consider donating to Feeding Africa to keep the food program running. Whether you are able to give little or much, a single donation or a monthly commitment, we know God can use what we have to change lives. Thank you to all of you who are on this journey with us. May God bless you.
